Ashton-Under-Lyne's favourite shopping destination!

Press Release - October 09

SHOPPING CENTRE GETS A GREENER CLEAN

A shopping centre in Ashton-under-Lyne has become the first UK shopping centre to use bio-technology cleaning products.

The Arcades shopping centre in Ashton-under-Lyne plays host to more than 9 million shoppers per year and accommodates over 40 well known retail stores under one roof, including brands HMV, New Look and WH Smith.

The shopping centre is the first to commit to greener cleaning practices by signing up to use of Innu-science, a range of cleaning products containing ‘friendly’ bacteria that are totally free of chemicals. The products are low in toxicity, ph neutral, do not emit Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and contain no solvents or phosphates.

The products and cleaning services will be provided by resource, the UK’s fastest growing support services company.   Earlier this year, Resource signed an exclusive agreement with global leaders in natural cleaning products, Innu-science, to become the only business in the UK licensed to use bio-technological cleaning products.

Resource’s team of 12 cleaning operatives are now using Innu-science products across the Arcades site, which occupies 140,000 ft2 of retail space.

Tony Lyle, Operations Manager for Resource said “The implementation of Innu-science cleaning products at the Arcades site has been extremely successful.  The centre is a popular destination attracting significant footfall, so it has really given us the opportunity to test the capabilities of the products.

“The products are used in exactly the same way as any other cleaning products but with the added benefit that users do not have to wear any protective clothing, which makes them friendlier to our cleaning operatives and to the environment.”

Lynne Picken, Centre Manager of The Arcades shopping centre, said: “The Arcades has played a key part in the regeneration of Tameside and in the revival of the retail scene in Ashton-under-Lyne - so maintaining the appearance and cleanliness of the space is vital.  Modern-day shoppers have extremely high expectations of their retail experience and expect nothing but the highest of levels of presentation.  Innu-science has allowed us to maintain excellent standards of cleanliness whilst significantly reducing our impact on the environment.”
